Waning Tide

Ilder log 03

So apparently I’ve had this living quarters in firewall for a while, and I wonder what it looks like! I don’t think I’ve had my own place that I didn’t steal in a while…

Anyway. After learning that, We meet up with Ming for a new mission. Something about an abandoned barge being reenhabitated They want us to see what’s going on there. I look into my ‘connections’ and find out that Adam Angel is connected to The Nancy. Also the kid is the worst flirter I’ve ever seen. While he’s tripping his own feet refusing to flirt with Cho I yell out “FIGHT OTHER OWLS FOR HER, PUFF YOUR FEATHERS!!” Immediately after I’m filled with the instincts of the past and I have a flashback to pre uplift…I wonder what it was like to fly in the night of old Earth. I snap out of my flashback when the group wants me to call Adam Angel and I do so with some help of drink. He was pretty helpful after insulting all of us at the same time, I nearly instinctively used the look on him because he thought we were ‘young’ for this info!!! I guess I was still in the moment from earlier. So we got the physical location of The Nancy. We attempted one last time to talk and she died halfway through talking…Something about methmorphs…

With that we were done planning and off to rent the ship, since The Nancy is pretty close we’ll just send ourselves there without renting. That makes me anxious considering the results of the last mission…

Oh yeah!! I recently got this shiny new gun, so I can fight if I need to! Awww hoot yeaahhh.

For The First Time in a Long Time Things Do Not Go According to Plan
Xavier Report 3

I take great pride in being the only one out of the group who can get what I want out of people. Scientists, Hypercorp, socialites are all very easy. I fail at trying to get information from Ms. Dame and instead end up making her think that I work for the Slaughter Ring. I thought at that point things couldn’t get any worse, but then Mr. Keller makes another call, gives me the phone and explains that I need to talk with Ms. Cira. She likes having fun “if you know what I mean” and I need to SEDUCE CIRA to get information from her.

“Don’t worry, I’ll walk you through it!” Says Mr. Keller, with an amicable smile.

In my parent’s early training for me to become the Perfect Little Heir, they told me to never, ever, EVER flirt shamelessly with another person. It makes the company look bad, it makes you look bad, and you will get disowned for it.

So not only am I doing something I’ve never done before or promised myself I’d never do, I’m getting help from a doctor and a bird (halfway through Ms. Liar decided to step in with her own advice).

“Say ‘sugartits’.” Like I would ever say that how vulgar.

“Ruffle your feathers! Fight other birds for her!!”

In the end, I got the information I wanted in exchange for a date and all of my pride.

I would like to go back to my apartment and relax, take a shower so I can wash away this feeling of filth and prostitute, but we still have work to do.

Cannibalistic Cultists Are Scary
Xavier Report 2

We rented a ship! Mr. Keller-I mean Captain Keller-is a superb pilot! I asked if I could be his co-pilot and sit next to him on the ship “Sure, kid. Just uhh as long as you call me captain. And don’t touch anything!” Captain Keller sounds rather stern but he’s really quite nice.

Hmm…I don’t really think it’s necessary to talk about the stuff in-between…Artie got stressed out from looking at the aliens and watching Ms. Yu being ground up into a pile of wet, bloody noodles so he went back to the ship. It didn’t bother me much, though. The aliens sort of looked like a colleague i used to work with so they weren’t really that scary; and the noodles just sort of made me hungry.

Moving on, I stayed away from the fight for the most part. Although I wasn’t frightened by the aliens (Ms. Liar calls them ‘raptors’, i’m surprised she knows what raptors are! maybe she really likes dinosaurs?), I knew they would rip me apart if I got too close. I don’t really have any reason to roast them with my agonizer anyway, it’s not like I want to see a bunch of ugly aliens writhing around in pain. So I sat in the kitchen area, thinking of fixing myself something to eat, until I hear a distinct ’caw’ing noise followed by Mr. Keller stumbling into the room, clutching his stomach. I was just about to peek around the corner to see what had happened to Ms. Liar (my childlike curiosity gets the best of me sometimes) until I heard her screams over our shared network-something about the raptors being on fire-then I hear static, and the line goes dead. I just wordlessly close the door.

Unfortunately, the aliens know how to use doors! Fortunately, Mr. Hector takes care of them like they’re nothing then points towards the door as if to say, “Go back to the ship. I can handle the rest of this and you two will just be a hinderance”. I look over to see Mr. Keller giving him a glare and I help him back to the ship; the doctor isn’t having a very good day today.

With Mr. Keller injured, I have no choice but to fly the ship on my own. After watching someone pilot it, I was really easy and once Mr. Hector got back I flew us out of there.

Evil With a Flair for Melodrama
RT40PX L0G -- Entry 3

From my accessible logs, I can only determine that our Team Sigma is just a rag-tag group of new recruits with nothing to lose… except the mistaken impression that we have any semblance of competence at doing our jobs. But nevertheless, I’m still excited to be out here, and I have faith that we’re really not as inept as we seem.

And it looks like Professor Ming does, too! … Although it seems that his faith is based on OUR past experience. The Logic does not follow too well, that if we come so highly recommended as Agents of Firewall, why are we ourselves not allowed to remember what we’ve done?

Events continue to suggest that Professor Ming is opposed to telling us the whole story… including but not limited to directly revealing that Professor Ming is withholding information crucial to completing the mission he set to us moments before. It’s probably best not to draw attention to it, though. The LAST time I brought up a glaring contradiction on an unsecured channel, it didn’t sit too well with my former employers…

Anyhow, I investigated our target (a little haphazardly, I’m afraid— I might be turning up on a few new and unwanted searches, now), and I discerned that The Nancy is now home to a crew of malcontents known as “The Slaughter Ring.”

You heard me right. “The Slaughter Ring.” Clearly they are a group intending to inspire terror from their name alone… only to fall far off base. If I were programmed for humor, I would likely have more to say on the subject, but as it stands, I’m hardly shaken. Call me when you think you can out-scare a noodle, boys. (I would like to mention here that I am attempting to employ humor, which, I will restate, I was not programmed for. I would NOT like you to call me if you can out-scare noodles. I may have developed a phobia.)

L0g supplimental,

In my observation of the team, I have realized that I do not understand organisms as well as I had thought. Young Mister Shields seemed to have difficulty in wooing a mate today, even though he was advised by Mister Liar… or should it be Miss Liar? The entire construct of gender amongst biotics confuses me greatly. I must remember to study this in detail later. For science.

Slaughter Ring
Seduction, Melodrama, and Memories. Overiew 3

Meeting in Fusion, Sigma meets with Professor Magnus Quio-sen Ming once more, after recuperating for a month or so. After their last mission, all of the team discovered that they had apartments in Aarhus that they did not recall.

Ming informs the team that Firewall has a new mission for them. Artie questions Ming as to why Firewall would entrust them with a mission. Ming remarks on their successful history and the team’s willingness to face death. A scum barge, The Nancy, has recently become reenhabitated after being abandoned. Firewall wants to investigate the barge and discover their activities. With a bit of i-rep pull, Carson convinces Ming to divulge that Cho Sira and Dame have been monitoring the scum barge. Ming cautions that these characters have their own motives, but do possess valuable connections.
Ilder Liar investigates her criminal connections and discovers Adam Angel, is connected to the barge.
Carson looks into both Cho and Dame, discovering that Cho is a popular, attractive person who monitors barges. Dame is hateful of scum barges, and is both terrifying and awe-inspiring.
Artie looks into the barge, first failing and ends up placing himself on the mesh as a criminal contact, before finding out The Nancy was a pre-fall freighter that ferried poor transhumans off Earth. It was then abandoned to its few thrusters and cramped size. It orbits Saturn and has been occasionally used for mining gas, but all operations end shortly there after. It seems cursed. The current occupant is The Slaughter Ring, a serious gang.
The Slaugher Ring, with a bit of research turns up. The gang operates in a variety of grey and black market activities, designing new weapon blueprints, selling gas, selling hardcore habitat-destroying weaponry, and more. They take payment via morphs, favours, trades, and cold hard credits.
Then Xavier contacts Dame, but leds her to think they are working against humanities interests, failing to convince her for information.
Cho sira proves to be a different story, and is seduced with a wink and a tease. She mentions that the nancy isn’t the fun kind of barge for pleasure but full of guns and weaponry, but she does tell them how to egocast there, with a date with xavier later.
Adam Angelturns out to be a savvy criminal center. He plays the group, and gives the group the nancy’s physical coordinates with favors owed at a later date. Xavier convinces Angel to bump into to one favor, and secures a radio transmission with voices shrieking and screaming ‘I hate flesh. I hate flesh."
Attempts to talk to Dame once more, led to Dame’s death with one word mentioned methmorph.
Little info can be found about the morph, and Ming will only say it relates to their previous work and will disturb them.
Giving up for now, the group pays 2,000 credits to rent a ship, and heads out.

Day well bellow average.

Nothing old. Nothing shiny.

I remember the days of near constant theft and looting. Rummaging through earth ruins or abandoned ships. Wallets, far as the extended eye could see.

But now while actually trying and remember those days it’s fuzzy. This is Firewalls doing that is certain, “working” for them has become so tedious.

Managed to steal one thing on this mission, nothing too interesting, but it did eventually lead to a complete mental breakdown of bullet-brains when I used it to hack some security cameras.

I assume I’m laughing because this is something funny and not because I lack the tear-glads to cry at how utterly pitiful it is.

Recall there being some conflict against some alien or another. These things bore me so I will save you the details. Grenades were thrown, some of my “allies” were shot. Seem to recall someone being eaten alive.

Of course the freaks prove the be as useless as they look. It’s like they are trying to get themselves killed. Of course they leave everything up to me. I have to save the day and rescue all of them and save the day and collect the objective and kill the aliens and finish the mission. By. My. Self. How I loathe them all for this.

And none of them appreciate a quality wallet!

Man down! Where's the medi-oh shit
Carson: Log 2

…not sure where to begin.

A fair amount of ridiculous and, frankly, embarrassing bs went down for a few hours. Then I got shot. Essentially all you need to take away from this mission is that everyone is an amateur and that I got shot.

So, at first we had this brilliant idea to blow out the White Khanh’s life-support, and let them suffocate to death. Only, on the way there, we hacked a security feed to make sure they weren’t coming to kill us.

Apparently the White Khanh engage in ritualistic screaming cannibalism.

Not that this bothers me – I’m a doctor, you understand, and I’ve seen/done much worse in my time as a student – but our poor robot fellow simply couldn’t take it. We managed to take out the life-support, but we had to carry the dribbling robotic lunatic back to the ship. I did try to help the guy out; we had a lot of time to ourselves, waiting for poser-reaver-douchebags to die gasping. That was actually the best part of the mission. I would never have handled psych problems in my old clinic, but the was the first time I felt like a doctor in years. It’s funny, but it felt a lot more practiced than it should have…

The sense of nostalgia lasted until we made it back to the Song Cai Flower and I emptied a clip directly into an alien’s face. Because APPARENTLY these mutant freaks don’t need air to survive and APPARENTLY I’m the only one here with a gun and the ability not to go bat-shit insane. Ilder went down, we had to lob a few grenades at her to save the team (yet another sign that I’m no longer a doctor), and next thing I know I take a bullet from the last surviving bastard. My body gives out, and I watch Hector save the day.

He was all smug about it too, finishing the whole mission while everyone else was dead/insane/broken/shota.

Ilder log 02

Where to even begin.

Oh geez..

I know I was joking at us being a odd team but man.

ANYWAY I’ll get to telling you about our NEAR FAILURE FIRST MISSION, at least from what I remember of it……..

So I make the agreement to rent a falcon Morph for resleeving, while I mean it shouldn’t be that big of a difference between my old Morph it just isn’t the same. I was sure I’d get over it though.
After looking around and a favor we did get a hold of a ship. Whats-his-face…Keller really surprised me he didn’t look like he could fly a ship that well. But with almost perfect precision we took off flew into space. We find a cloaked ship on an asteroid that after some searching we find out if was the girl who’s missing’s ship! It was really creepy how empty it was..

Then we fly off to our main destination, The Creepiest Ship Ever, that the gang..White Khanh? The ships appearance is odd..to put it simply. Keller lands the ship just fine and we put on our space suits to a too easy landing…I don’t know what I was expecting but this just seemed..to easy…I guess it worked out better that way we had time to plan by which I mean we don’t plan we kind of just run outside. The creepy snake bot was hacking away at the door and showed us ONE OF THE MOST DISTURBING VIDEOS I’VE NEVER WANTED TO SEE. So, I’m not sure if I talked about this last time, but we found a video while doing our totally public searching this guy eating these weird red noodles and none of us thought twice. Well, FIGURED OUT WHAT THAT WAS.

Yeah! I-isn’t that swell! They just, GRIND PEOPLE THE FUCK UP AND FUCKING EAT THEM

So while I start getting dizzy, ARTY, YEAH the ROBOT almost goes insane. Who knew the 2 ton gun was so affected by people? While everyone else seems unaffected. We all agree Arty should go back into the ship, since hes so spooked. We enter the first room to find someone at the sight of us DASH OFF and in a half second whats his face tries to shoot him down but fails. After much discussion we decide to take out the life support and come back in about 8 hours for me and Arty to calm down and we figured the mission would be much easier with most of the organics dead.

So we come back later and everything seems exactly the same, ’cept with some bodies on the floor.

I carefully put on my chameleon cloak and sneak out the door into the machine yard. There is heavy equipment everywhere. A weird nano hive is above my head.
Then Carson enters the room setting off alarms and to find these horrible creatures the team quickly nick names “raptors” because without the tail that’s what they look like. They have these spikes on their back, three digits a huge set of teeth, their eyes are all messed up. ALSO SOMEHOW THEY DON’T NEED OXYGEN, WHAT THE FUCK. Luckily they haven’t detected me. But I’m paralyzed stiff. I do not want them to ever notice me. They are just.

So terrifying.

I tell myself over and over I need to get my head into the game for my team but I just can’t. I can notice that I’m dizzy again and now panicing. Which is just great.

I briefly notice the boy run in and out of the room, I suspect he’s terrified of them as well..

Carson is busy shooting as I look at my own tools I regret not buying a long distance weapon.

He is beaten badly and I am noticed!!!

Then everything goes white as I scream out my last words into our shared network.

RT40PX L0G -- Entry 2

Oh. It feels like I resleeved sideways. I just can’t get anything right today.

But I don’t mind, it just looks like I’m going to have to leave a little more up to my more than capable allies for a little while. Just look at Mister Keller! He’s a superb pilot, and he even managed to spot Tara Yu’s cloaked ship!

The Song Cai Flower has been pretty easy to get into, so far, the docking bay wasn’t even guarded… nor was it oxygenated, but that’s hardly an issue, right? Hector is probing the security system as we speak, and then he’s going to hack the door to get us inside— normally that would be my job, but it’s kind of tough when your brain is sideways.

Oh! It looks like Hector is done! … and he’s got some security footage! Looks like Miss Yu! She’s up against Dextor Vo… I thought she was on our side. Organisms are strange. Is their drive to reproduce that strong? Oh, and there’s someone on the floor… why is he in a sack? What’s that he’s being pulled into? What’s… WHAT?! Noodles? Noodles? NoodleS? Death, Mothers, and Infilitration
Overview 2

After brokering new, same type morphs at the resleeving on Casa Arturo the team egocasts over, and resleeves. The players adjust admirably aside from RT40PX “Artie” who integrates terribly although the body does not feel foreign to him, he cannot work it properly.
With that Team Sigma begins to inquire into finding a space transport to travel 100,000 km ahead in the Trojans to the Song Cai Flower. the notion of calling in yet another favor is quickly discarded by all, and though Hector seems to favor stealing a ship Sigma decides to contact Professor Magnus Quio-sen Ming and secure a SLOTV through Firewall channels and i-reputation.
With ease Carson Keller pilots the ship directly toward the White Khanhs. With brilliant skill he spots the power put out by theKesyrah, which turns out to be the ship that Tara Yu used to clamber aboard. The team temporarily disembarks to investigate. They find the airlock cut open and the ship torn apart and stripped of useful parts. A dead, stackless, flexbot morph sits in a seat. With a bit of recognition, they realize it is the sleeve of Morteza Bey‘s beta fork. Hector scours the ship for useful parts, coming away with useful infosec equipment.
Quickly scanning the outward appearance of the ship, Sigma lands in the vacuum of a docking spar. The umblicious of the entry is broken leading to their easy entrance. LLOTVs belonging to gang lie picked apart for parts. While in the docking spar Hectorinterfaces with the mesh finding footage and showing it to the team. A human being ground into noodles while watching is being eaten by Dexter Vo and Ji, a gang member occupying Tara’s former morph as Xavier Shields determined via his astute ability to read body language. Traumatized Artie flies into hysterics, and cannot act properly while Ilder Liarbecomes panicked and dizzy. While there Hector discerns that there are alien humanoids about as well as those who seem mostly human. In the ops center a strange mass rests. In the utility center connected to the docking spar he finds one drone.
Artie retreats to the safety offered by the ship. Entering the utility center the drone spots them and tries to flee, but suffers severe wounds from Carson’s full-auto pistol. The group examines the utility center, and Hector uses plasma grenades to sabotage the life support, causing it to cease producing oxygen, leading to no oxygen in the ship within 8 hours. Hector connects to the local mesh again and finds that all the drones have gathered in the next door machine yard, and are devouring the shot drone, causing trauma to Hector who immediately refuses to connect to the mesh again. the team decides to sabotage the door to blow when the drones come through, wounding them with dwindling oxygen. While fleeing back to the SLOTV Wei, the security AI, detects their presence at last. And with strange coyness begins to try to infect them and prevent their flying into the sun to spread the Hive. Carson sends his muse to seduce and distract WEI, but infects his muse with the glory virus who then shuts down after sending him bursts of strange images, sounds and senses. With the drones’ wounds they are unable to retrieve the VAC suits or repair the life support algae.
Carson’s muse reboots and tries to hack his sock to use him to craft a new HIVE and begin the process of the Glory virus once again.
Sigma retreats to SLOTV for eight hours, and Carson consoles Artie, easing his trauma with little expertise.
Returning in protective suits, the team finds the bloodied and dead bodies of the vaguely alien drones. Cautiously Ilder Liar, covered with a chameleon cloak, enters the machine yard that the drones originated from. She observes all the heavy equipment, as well as strangely military hardware that must be the Myrmidon hardware Tara Yu was researching. Above it lies a strange nanobot hive. Carson enters the room, but then Wei alerts the breeders that they are once more being invaded. Ilidar immediately suffers trauma through dizziness and disorientation at the sight of these monstrosities. These incredibly alien former humans turn out to eschew the need for oxygen, now that they are fully informed. Xavier as well rushes into the room while Hector skulks about in the utility room. Xavier flees while Carson is brutally stabbed psychically, feeling the pressure of chopped limbs and stomach wounds. When Xavier flees one breeder uses her abilities to sense egos to accidentally detect Ilidar’s cloaked bird morph.
With that, her suffering begins. The team concocts a plan to bomb them with Hector’s grenades, but their plan to wait for Carson and Ilidar to get out fails. While Carson escapes, Ilidar’s suit is ripped open with a sword and they begin to consumer her alive. Hector peers in and skillfully lands a grenade in the breeder’s mist and Carson slams the door shut. Ilidar dies in flames, and the team uses both the airlocks and grenades to decimate all but one of the original four breeders that attacked them. When they return the last female breeder, clinging to life who shoots down Carson into unconsciousness as Xavier and Hector finish her off. The dead body releases biospores of the Glory virus which try to infect Hector through his pierced suit, but fail, and retreat to the nanobot hive.
Xavier carts Carson back to the SLOTV, and stabilizes him. Hector meanwhile slinks about the ship, securing Ilidar’s cortical stack and the dogtags of Zheng‘s father.
Then with slow movements Hector secures the hardware into his grasp. He then sneaks with chameleon cloak on top into the ops center. There he sees a breeder fucking a former woman who now is skin the coats the walls with embryos writhing inside her and controls sticking through her flesh. He croons to her, soothing the mother. Hector, repulsed, snags Tara Yu’s cortical stack, but then is found by the AI. He makes a daring escape and the psychic powers of the brood mother lash out at sigma as Xavier manages a take off at the last second, with untrained mind.
Contacting Ming, He mentions the unruly methane seas but congratulates the team on a job mostly well done, mentioning that Tara Yu has been re sleeved, Firewall will cover their therapy and resleeving costs. The ship does still pose a threat with the waiting infection it represents. Tara Yu is grateful though still mentally recovering. Vasquez collects her information warily, suspicious of lies, but Xavier manages to deceive her into believing their tale of a cult. Sigma reports Tara Yu’s rented craft to Casa Arturo, recieving reputation increases.
